The Pale Blue Dot series is my lifelong project of creating a painting a day, among other projects, to depict the passing of a 24 hour cycle on planet Earth. It is inspired by NASA’s photograph of the pale blue dot taken on February 14, 1990, the awe inspiring monologue of Carl Sagan, and a nod to the work of conceptual artists On Kawara and Roman Opalka.

The painting
My Pale Blue Dot paintings consist of a straight cut MDF board, approximately 11.69 x 8.27 x 0.7inches (29.7 x 21 x 1.8cm), or UK A4 size.
I then coat the board in an adhesive texture and paint a deep black paint; the black color representing outer space.
At the centre of the black painted board, I apply a 0.5cm pale blue dot; the pale blue dot representing planet Earth.

Below the painted pale blue dot, I stamp the board with the current day’s date using the date/month/year variant. There is one painting for every day since my birth date of March 31, 1973.
To finish, I leave the painting to dry before applying a protective varnish.
A Pale Blue Dot painting is then complete.
Each painting is priced at £125 which includes shipping.
